Meat and Poultry

Discover an incredible array of meat from our butchery counter, from prime fillet steak to our handmande sausages. As well as traditional cuts, the butchery is regularly stocked with less widely available meats, including wild rabbit, veal and vension. Not sure what you’re looking for? One of our expert butchers can guide you through every cut and tell you where it was sourced, how to cook it and what it tastes like.

Some of the finest quality meat from pasture fed livestock.

The butchery department at Quex Barn has been the cornerstone of the business since it was founded in 2007. We source the vast majority of our produce locally and our master butchers cut whole carcasses onsite.

Beef

Pride of place in the butchery counter is our selection of beef. We source most of our beef from Chandler and Dunn’s herd of sussex cattle. They are pasture fed on the marshland surrounding Sandwich and Ash, approximately 8 miles from Quex Barn. We use a local abbatoir, resulting in incredibly low food miles for most of our cuts. We buy whole carcasses which are butchered on site by our highly skilled butchery team.

Lamb

Our Romney sheep are a traditional breed of the area, thriving on the marshland. They are reared on grass, hay and silage, resulting in very naturally succulent meat. We believe that because the grazing areas for the cattle and sheep are so close to the sea, the grass picks up salt which improves the flavour of the meat.

Pork

Over the years we have reared our own pigs as well as buying pork from local farmers. Our sausages are well known in the area, and are all handmade on site using high quality whole cuts. We have a fantastic range of flavours, from the more traditional like

Poultry

When it comes to poultry, we understand the importance of traceability and welfare. We offer a range of free-range chicken options, from succulent and tender whole chickens to chicken portions perfect for family meals or barbecues. We are proud to supply Turkeys from John Howe, a family farm based in Tenterden, who produce some of the finest free-range Bronze Turkeys in the South East.
